Green Day!

We had a great Green Day today. We celebrated a special birthday too and painted green. We made our green collage. Some of us also pretended like we were making cookies for Santa Claus.

We had a Bible story today. We learned about the angel who told Mary that she was going to have a special baby. The angel told her that she should name the baby Jesus and that he would be God's son! Our new Bible words are: "God's Son is Born for Us!

We are practicing for our Christmas program at school everyday. Here are a few songs you can practice at home!

(tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)
Mary had a baby boy, baby boy, baby boy
Mary had a baby boy
And Jesus was his name

She wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, swaddling clothes, swaddling clothes
She wrapped him up in swaddling clothes
And laid him in the hay

Jingle Bells
Away in a Manger
We Wish You a Merry Christmas

Happy Thanksgiving!

"Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done!" Psalm 105:1

We had a wonderful feast today! We dressed up in Indian and Pilgrim hats, sang our Thanksgiving songs, and ate yummy food! We all had a great time and enjoyed having our guests at school! I pray that you all have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving! We will see you Tuesday at school. I will post more pictures of the feast next week.
Here are the words to our Thanksgiving songs:
(tune of "Are You Sleeping")
Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey
Run away, run away
If you are not careful
You will be a mouthful
Thanksgiving day, Thanksgiving day
(tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It")
Hello Mr. Turkey how are you?
Hello Mr. Turkey how are you?
With a wobble, wobble wobble
And a gobble, gobble, gobble
Hello Mr. Turkey how are you?

Library Pictures and Reminders

Here are some pictures from our field trip to the library. We had a great time! We got a tour of the library, looked at lots of books, learned about all the fun things to do at the library, and we even got to meet the library pet, Sugar the guinea pig! We also each checked out a book to share with our friends at school. We learned lots about the library and how to take care of books.

Today at preschool, we talked about turkeys. We made special turkeys for decorations at our feast.

Reminder: our class Thanksgiving Feast is this coming Tuesday, November 20th from 10:00-11:15 am. Each child may bring one guest to share in the feast. We will be eating, making hats, and the children will be sharing some Thanksgiving songs with you. See you there!

Also, I would like to remind everyone about the movie field trip. We will be attending the movie "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" on Wednesday, November 28th at 10:00 am (doors will open at 9:30). Anyone is invited to attend and join in the fun! If you would like to come, please send 50 cents per person to school on the day of the feast. We need to get an accurate count for the theater as soon as possible. Tickets will be sold at the box office the day of the movie. The cost is $5.75 per person.

Children are allowed to attend without an adult. An adult will need to bring them to the theater, purchase their ticket and snack (optional), and get them seated.

Ready at Five

We have come across a new website that I would like to share with you. It was recommended to us by a former preschool parent. It is readyatfive.org (or click on the link on the right hand side of this webpage). Check out this website and go to parent tips. There is information on everything from how to know if your child is ready for school, how to teach them numbers and letters, nutrition, and any other topic you can think of. It is loaded with great information and I think it would be beneficial for all parents. If any of you have any other parent resource websites that you would like to share, let me know and I will post them on our blog.

Brown Day!

We had a fun Brown Day today at preschool!
We all wore brown, painted brown, made our brown collage together, and got our faces painted brown. We even had chocolate milk and Teddy Grahams for a brown snack! We also had fun playing in the play room and in the backyard room.
We had a Bible lesson about being thankful. We talked about how God gave us everything that we have like food to eat, mommies and daddies to take care of us, and houses to live in. We wrote down what we are thankful to God for on turkey feathers. You can see our thankful turkey displayed in the playroom.
Reminder: Tuesday we are going to the Lincoln Public Library for a tour. Please have your child wear his or her green field trip t-shirt and dress warm for the walk over.
Here is another song to try at home:
(tune of London Bridge)
God gave us the color brown, color brown, color brown
God gave us the color brown
Leaves are brown!
(continue singing the song and filling in with different things that are brown)

Harvest of Talents

Here is a picture of our class presenting a check to the Harvest of Talents. We gave half the proceeds of our carnival to the Harvest, and we were able to donate $165.97! This is a great accomplishment and will do so much to alleviate world hunger all over the world. The aluminum cans that were brought in were also donated to the Harvest. This is a perfect example how God can use anyone, even little children, to do good work for others. I am proud of our preschoolers and families for their contribution to the Harvest of Talents for world hunger. Thank you! It wouldn't have been possible without your participation in the carnival and your volunteer work setting up and working at the carnival.
It's hard to believe that it is November already! Our class is learning and growing more and more everyday. Be looking for your November newsletter on Tuesday. We will be learning about books, turkeys, and being thankful to God! Happy November!

School Songs

Here are some songs that we sing at school that your child may enjoy singing at home.
Prayer Song (tune of "Are You Sleeping")
Thank you God, thank you God
For our food, for our food
Thank you for our friends
Thank you for our family
Thank you God, thank you God
(The children might like to sing this before their meals at home too)!

Clean Up Song (to the tune of "Mary Had a Little Lamb")
It's time to put the toys away, toys away, toys away
It's time to put the toys away
As quietly as you can

Wake Up Toes (tune of "Are You Sleeping")
Wake up toes, wake up toes
Rise and shine, rise and shine
It's time to say good morning, time to say good morning
Wake up toes, wake up toes
(Sing again and put in other body parts such as fingers, legs, etc)

Stop, Drop, and Roll (tune of "Farmer in the Dell")
Stop, drop and roll
Stop, drop and roll
If fire is on your clothing
Just stop, drop and roll

As November begins, we will be learning new songs. I will post them as we learn them. Have fun!

Fire Safety

Our class got a visit from the Lincoln Firefighters this morning! They talked to us about fire safety. They showed us what they looked like in their firefighter gear so that we won't be afraid if fire fighters ever have to come to our house. They taught us never to hide from a fire fighter. They also showed us their fire engine. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot!
This week, we also learned that if fire is on our clothes, we stop, drop and roll. If there is a fire in our house or school, we have to get out. We practiced crawling low in smoke. We also practiced a fire drill.
Now would be a great time for each family to talk about fire safety at home. The Lincoln Fire Department told us that it is very important for each family to have a fire drill and practice it. Each member of your family (including children) needs to know how to get out of the house, and what your family meeting place outside is. For more tips on how to have a family fire drill, refer to the handout passed out earlier this week at school.

Pumpkin Patch

We had a great time at the Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday! The weather was just perfect, and we loved being outside. When we got there, we had orange cookies for a snack. Then we all played on the slide and in the hay maze together. Next we took a walk in the patch to see where pumpkins grow. We saw how pumpkins start as a blossoms. We saw all different sizes and colors of pumpkins. After our walk in the patch, we moved onto our favorite part: picking out pumpkins to take home! We had a great morning. Thank you to everyone who drove and helped chaperone our trip!

Keep checking this week for more pictures of our trip to the pumpkin patch. Also, take a look at Wednesday's edition of the Lincoln Courier for pictures from our trip!

Harvest Moons

Here are some pictures of us in the listening center, playing in the sand, and playing dress up in the play room.
Today we talked about Harvest Moons. We learned that a Harvest Moon is a full moon. It is a circle shape, and it is orange and yellow. We read the book, "Kitten's First Full Moon" and we made Harvest Moons to hang up in our classrooms.
Reminder: Mark your calendars! Our Fall Carnival is coming up on October 12 from 6-8 pm. We will have family fun, games and snacks. Half the proceeds from the carnival will go to Harvest of Talents, and the other half will benefit preschool. We will need lots of help for our carnival. We are asking for volunteers to work in shifts, which are only 1/2 hour. If you are available to help, please sign-up at school, or contact me by phone or e-mail. Thank you so much for your help.
